About

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is a registered Scottish charity that provides palliative care and support for people living in South Glasgow and East Renfrewshire. Our palliative and end-of-life care services for patients, their families and carers are free.

Volunteering as a member of our Retail Warehouse, you will play an integral part in the development and smooth running of the Retail Distribution Centre (Oswald Street), from stock collection and preparation to customer service. You will assist in the grading of newly donated and recycled merchandise, to help ensure a consistent supply of quality items meets our shops requirements.

Responsible to:

Warehouse Manager; Retail Area Manager; Volunteer Services Manager

Activities of the role:

To promote and raise the profile of the Hospice throughout the local community and the importance of raising funds through the shops
Assist with sorting, grading and packing donated and recycled merchandise according to set standards and store requirements
Help assess the quality and suitability of donated merchandise, and address any quality issues with the Warehouse Supervisor
Identifying items for sale on e-bay or other on-line platforms
Clean and prepare bric-a-brac items in preparation for sale
Identify hazards, assess risks and report incidents as required
To assist with the loading and unloading of the van
Understanding the importance of confidentiality at all times and maintaining high standards with regard to communicating information in a confidential manner

Skills & Personal qualities:

Friendly and welcoming manner with excellent customer service skills
Cheerful nature, good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate confidently with the general public
Well organised, reliable and trustworthy
A knowledge of fashion, designer labels, current trends and vintage objects would be an asset
Work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
Ability to recognise the importance of establishing a good rapport with staff
Willingness to undertake training which will help in your role
Smart and neat appearance in line with organisational standards

Time commitment:

Volunteers should be able to make a regular commitment. With shifts available on a daily basis Monday to Friday.

Participation in regular meetings and any other opportunities will be advised when they occur
