Key Election Information for College Staff

Firstly, we could not run our Student Elections without the support of the College and its staff, from estates staff supporting set up of polling stations to lecturing teams encourgaing students to nominate and vote. The success of our elections is a team effort.

To support staff during election time we have put together some useful information below so that they can continue to support the election process whilst ensuring the voting is fair and equitable.

Elections Overview for Staff

  • Nominations open 19th of February and close on 12 noon 8th of March.
  • Voting opens at 9am on Monday the 18th of March and closes at 4pm on Thursday 21st March.
  • How can students vote? Students can vote online through the CitySA website using their CityLife login details. A 'How To' video guide can be found here. They can also access paper ballots at polling stations running on campus.

How can I support my students to engage?

  • Encourgage students to nominte themselves - signposting to key information here.
  • Face to face campaigning is encouraged this year and candidates may ask to speak to your classes for a few minutes. Where possible please allow them to do so.
  • Signpost students to the voting page or to attend a polling station during voting week.
  • For students that may want to vote in a quieter environment than our main polling stations please signpost them to our staffed Quiet Polling room C.02.017. This is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of voting week, between 11am  and 2pm.

Rules to be aware of

The main rule for staff to be aware of is, whilst they can offer emotional support to candidates they should not endorse them or campaign on their behalf (e.g. asking classes to vote for a particular candidate). Doing so may result in the candidates disqualification. Candidates should be familiar with all election rules which can be viewed in full here.

If you have any concerns or questions about the running of the election please contact our team at: citysa@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk
