The Student Pantry has recently been awarded a generous grant of £2,622 from the Commonweal Fund at the Trades House of Glasgow. This grant will help the pantry continue to support students experiencing food insecurity.
Ciara McCarthy, Student President, Stacey Hawes, VP of Diversity and Wellbeing, and Abbie Niven, a Student Pantry volunteer, attended the ceremony and accepted the award on behalf of the Students’ Association.
Trades House of Glasgow: A rich legacy
The event presented an opportunity to meet Richard Patterson, the Collector of the House, and Bruce Reidford, the Deacon Convener. The Trades House of Glasgow, established in 1605, was initially set up to support the city’s craftsmen and enhance their skills. Over the years, it has significantly contributed to education by operating a free trade school and providing financial assistance to those in need. Today, the Trades House supports educational and charitable causes, especially for those facing adversity.
Learning about other organisations’ impact
During the event, we were introduced to the work of other organisations that had received funding and the positive impact they are making. Seeing how these groups tackle various challenges, from aiding vulnerable individuals to initiating community education programmes, was genuinely inspiring.
Networking and future collaboration
The gathering offered an opportunity to network with these organisations, discuss potential collaborations, and find new ways to support students through the pantry and beyond.
