Last week the Students' Association hosted voting week for our 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) process.
It was great to see an increase in engagement from our members this year, reflected in both the increase of ideas submitted and votes cast. We received 9 student submissions this year, covering a variety of topics that showed compassion to the challenges that the student population are facing and creativity in providing solutions.
We had four submissions that made it to the final motion stage. These ideas were opened up for students to vote on between the 29th of April and 3rd of May. The motions and their results are below:
- 91% of student voted in favour of the SA campaigning for a college community garden
- 95% of student voted in favour for the SA to lobby for more paid opportunities for students within the association
- 95% of student voted in favour of the SA campaigning for further support for International/ESOL students
- 87% of student voted in favour of the SA integrating trans liberation work into our annual plan
All motions passed quorum. The motions will be taken to Student Parliament at the end of the month for final approval, and planning will then begin for the Students' Association about how these motions can be achieved.
If you are a returning student next academic year and are interested in holding the Students' Association accountable and supporting the work that we do please consider running for a Student Parliament position or attending some of the parliament meetings.
