About Us

The refugee community is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place to make friends, be part of a supportive environment, and raise awareness of challenges that refugee students (including asylum seekers and students who are under the Humanitarian Protection) may experience.

The community is optional and open to anyone who identifies as a refugee, asylum seeker, or stays in Scotland under humanitarian protection. You do not have to declare information about this to any other student or staff member before joining the network. You also don’t need to attend meetings each week to be a member of the network, but consistent members are very welcomed.

What to expect and how to join?

After clicking the joining button, you will be added to a Network Hub, where you can communicate with other members and see updates about the network. All the updates will be posted by Polly, your Vice President Social and Activities or a Network Lead. Network leads are students who will set up and organise the network's meetings. They also help the Students' Association to promote and run their network.

Looking for Network leads

Refugee Community is looking for new network leads; check the Volunteering Hub if you’re interested in the role.

Network lead is a responsible role that opens you an opportunity to learn new skills and achieve a volunteering certificate by the end of the year.

One of our network leads said, "Being a network lead will really improve your social, leadership, and communication skills for the area that you want to be a network lead for.”
