The Students’ Association We Can campaign features students and staff members who identify as disabled or neurodivergent. With this campaign, we want to highlight the opportunities available for neurodiverse individuals and to raise awareness about neurodivergence.

We created the below video to enable people to discuss their career aspirations and highlight that disabled and neurodivergent students can achieve their goals. You can watch the video below.

Day in the Life Video Campaign

This campaign aims to amplify student voices by showcasing the challenges and successes of navigating further education. Whether about accessibility issues, overcoming obstacles, or using creative strategies to manage daily tasks, we want to share your experiences!

Your Day in the Life

We are looking for videos where the focus is on you sharing your authentic, real-life experience. You may want to discuss:

Navigating campus: What’s challenging or what works well regarding campus accessibility? Is it easy to get from one place to another, or do you use specific strategies to make it easier?

Classroom Experience: What’s it like for you in class? How do you access resources or make use of accommodations? How do you engage with your studies?

Daily Routines: Any tips or tools you use to manage your time, coursework, social interactions, or self-care.

Invisible Disabilities: If you have an invisible disability, how do you manage it throughout your college day without it being obvious to others?

Support Systems: How do you connect with peers or find support from services, mentors, or faculty?

We want to hear from students from all backgrounds and experiences, particularly those often underrepresented. This includes:

  • BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) students

  • Students from care-experienced backgrounds

  • LGBTQIA+ students

  • Students from low-income backgrounds

  • d/Deaf or hard-of-hearing students

  • Rural or isolated students

Every student’s journey is unique, and your story can make a difference. Whether it’s about overcoming challenges, finding creative solutions, or celebrating wins, your experience can inspire others. This campaign is all about students uplifting students!

Format

Video Length: 30-60 seconds (but feel free to go longer if you need more space to tell your story).

Voiceover: If you’re comfortable speaking, use a voiceover to share your thoughts and experiences.

Text: If you’d rather not speak, add text to explain what’s happening or highlight key points.

Visual Focus: The video can focus on your surroundings or tasks without showing your face or any personal information you’re uncomfortable sharing.

How to Submit

Please submit your video by 12pm on Monday 17th February. You can upload it to the Dropbox or send it directly to citysa@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk.

Please note that once you have emailed or uploaded it to the Dropbox you are consenting to having this video shared on any of our social media platforms.

Need some inspiration? Below are some ideas for what your video can include:

Morning routine or commute: Show how you prepare for the day – organising materials, using tech tools, or managing your mental health before leaving home.

Class and study life: Share your experience with attending classes – whether it's navigating online courses or in-person learning, using accommodations like extra time for assignments, or how you participate in group work.

Campus accessibility: Highlight how you experience accessibility on campus – what spaces work for you, what’s challenging (e.g., physical access, lack of quiet spaces, sensory overload), and any tips on navigating these issues.

Socialising and group work: Show how you manage group work, social interactions, or networks. Do you face any challenges in socialising? How do you manage group work with classmates who may not fully understand your needs?

Assistive technology and tools: If you use assistive technology (e.g., speech-to-text software, screen readers, mobility aids), share how they help you in your day-to-day activities.

Mental health and well-being: What steps do you take to maintain your mental health? Whether using apps for mindfulness, checking in with friends, or attending support groups, this is a great space to share what works for you.

Achievements and successes: Highlight moments when you felt proud of yourself, whether acing an assignment, making a new friend, or learning a new strategy that helps you thrive at college.

Our Student President, Ciara McCarthy has also created a day in the life video for inspiration. You can watch it here.
