Fuel your day on campus at the Student Pantry!
We are delighted to share with you that the Student Pantry is now open!
Who is it for?
The Student Pantry is available to any student experiencing food insecurity. However, as part of our ethos to promote dignity within crisis support, it is important to note that no student who accesses the pantry will ever be asked to prove their situation.
What is available?
Food items (including snacks, porridge pots and instant noodles/soups) and hot drinks are available during a pantry shift. Free hot water will also be available during these times – students are encouraged to bring their own reusable cup, however, there will also be cups available at the pantry.
How does it work?
Items are free of charge, and students are welcome to help themselves whilst following our traffic light system (which is detailed on posters in both pantry's). We use this so we can make our stocks last as long as possible and support as many students as we can!
When is it open?
City Campus opening hours:
- Tuesday 10am - 11.30am
- Thursday 4pm - 5pm
Riverside Campus opening hours:
- Thursday 10am - 11am
- Friday 10am - 11am
Any further support available?
Cupboard Items
We also have a limited supply of cupboard items like instant dinners, rice, pasta, soup, sauces and tins, as well as hygiene products, which are available to those who require extra support outside of college hours. To access this at City, please recommend students to attend our Thursday evening shift. This is aimed towards students seeking further support. A student can still request a home package on a Tuesday or Wednesday shift, however if the pantry is busy, we may not be able to offer them as much choice over the types of foods they receive). To access this at Riverside, students can request a home package during the Friday shift.
Cooking Classes
The Student Pantry, in partnership with Culinary Arts, are providing free one-off cooking classes to any student who would like to learn how to make cost effective meals. Participants will have a chance to learn how to prepare a soup and a main course that they can then take home with them. The lesson is delivered from one of our professional teaching kitchens with all ingredients provided. The classes are running on 24th September, 1st October, 8th October and 22nd October from 2pm to 5pm in room C.01.082. There are 18 spaces available per class and students should only attend one class. Please encourage any student who you think would benefit to book on. They can book a place here.
