Student-led teaching awards have been in operation across the college and university sector in Scotland for over a decade now. 15 organisations including colleges, universities and students’ associations now run an awards system to recognise the outstanding work lecturers and support staff do on a daily basis, and CitySA is one of the latest to join this list.
Demand for Student-led teaching awards first emerged at the college back in 2017 through an idea on our democracy platform My Voice. Students were asked how they could they could celebrate staff success and suggested some form of awards for staff members, which received positive feedback from the students who voted. This takes us to the present where, after consultation with college management and the National Union of Students, we launched our first Staff Awards programme in 2020. Now in 2022, we are getting ready for our third Staff Awards celebration, and we hope for it to be better than ever.
As as a Students' Association, we recognise the exceptional job our teaching & support staff do. Often the feedback we receive tends to focus on the challenges students face, and the Staff Awards provide us, and students, the opportunity to other colleges and universities across the country in showcasing good practice and the incredible achievements of our staff.
