Environemental E-Zine Project

The Environmental E-Zine project, was a Dynamic Learning Initiative for students studying NQ Photography courses. The purpose of the project was to capture student perspectives based on their personal relationship with the environment.

Engaging learners in discussions and activities surrounding Climate Crisis is not always easy. People often feel hopeless, frightened and voiceless when it comes to confronting the Climate Crisis, which in turn can disempower individuals from taking appropriate action. However, education can play a key role in preparing students to adapt to Global warming, while also equipping them with the necessary skills they require to mitigate their own environmental impact.

The e-zine project provided a platform for students to integrate the core skills and knowledge they learnt on their course and apply these disciplines into real life situations. Students were able to express their thoughts and feelings about environmental issues they felt strongly about, and suggest solutions that could lead to positive behavioural change.

Student Engagement, would like to thank the College's academic staff for the tremendous support they have shown by embedding the e-zine initiative into their course curriculum. Without their hard work, diligence and enthusiasm, our initiative would not have been possible.

The E-zines

NQ Photography lecturers worked in collaboration with City Library to add the student's work to their zine collection. City Zine Library's mission is to form a collection of zines by students and staff members from the college, and people around the world. To view the student's e-zines and the rest of the Library's zine collection visit City Zine Library's website.

E-zine Competition

We held a competition to pick three winners out of all the student's e-zines. Congratualtions to everyone who took part in the competition, the quality of work submitted was exceptional and demonstrated considerable talent and knowledge of the climate crisis. Due to the standard of work submitted, the judging panel found it very difficult to select a winner, however after much deliberation our winners are:

Christian Hepburn's 'Food Waste'

Hannah Lyons's 'Infected Infant'

Jennifer McCabe's 'Food Waste Statistics'
