The theme for this year’s Black History Month is Reclaiming Narratives. This theme emphasises the commitment to correcting historical inaccuracies and sharing the untold stories. To celebrate this theme, we are running an essay competition where we want to hear about how you have taken control of your stories and corrected the narrative.

Have you or anyone you know been overlooked for your contributions or achievements? We would love for you to share your story with us. All essay submissions should be at least 250 words and can be about your own personal experiences or someone you know.

All essays should be submitted by 5pm on Thursday 31st October. The winner of this competition will have their essay shared on the CitySA website and the top three winners will receive a Love2Shop voucher. The winners will be announced on Monday 4th November.

Essay submissions should be submitted by emailing citysa@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk with the subject line ‘Essay Competition [your student number]’.

Competition terms and conditions can be found here

Best of luck to all participants!
